No Harmful Airborne Titanium Dioxide
As the mineral sunscreen experts, we know Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide are some of the best active ingredients to help protect you from UV rays. While Titanium Dioxide helps provide broad spectrum protection from UVA and UVB rays in our sunscreen lotions, it is not in our sprays.
So, what’s the deal with Titanium Dioxide? The state of California recently issued a Proposition 65 warning against airborne Titanium Dioxide. According to the warning, Titanium Dioxide particles when airborne are so small there is a high risk that they can be inhaled and cause lung issues.
It’s important to note that this warning is only for airborne Titanium Dioxide and that Titanium Dioxide when used as a lotion is perfectly safe. While Titanium Dioxide is a great broad spectrum active ingredient for sunscreen lotions, we’ve side-lined it in our spray sunscreens to better protect you and your family.

How to Use Blue Lizard Spray Sunscreens
Blue Lizard spray sunscreens offer the convenience of a spray sunscreen so that you can spend more time having fun in the sun and less time worrying about a sunburn. But it’s important to know how to use a mineral spray sunscreen. For the best Blue Lizard mineral spray sunscreen experience, follow these steps:
The Do’s:
Shake well before using. Apply to dry skin 15 minutes before going out into the sun. Hold the container four to six inches from the skin to apply. Rub in using long strokes especially on the arms, legs, torso and back to get the best experience.
Reapply to dry skin at least every two hours or after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating and immediately after towel drying.
The Don’ts:
When using a spray sunscreen do not spray onto face. Instead, spray onto hands and then rub onto face to apply. Also, you don’t want to apply spray sunscreen in windy conditions as this could affect how much is applied to your skin and could increase risk of inhalation. Instead, use a mineral spray sunscreen in a well-ventilated area and avoid inhalation.
